Community spirit delivers cemetery tidy up

Kalkan cemetery for foreigners Kalkan cemetery for foreigners

If we haven't said it before you can be sure of one thing in Kalkan.  There is a community spirit second to none.

In the recent KTLN Kalkan survey it was the people that stood out as the best of Kalkan.

So it will not surprise you to learn that when a call went out to help tidy up the foreigners cemetery in Kalkan there was a good response.

Despite the heat 16 local expats turned out with their gardening equipment today to lend a hand.

For many years now the task of maintaining this small area of land set aside for foreigners has been largely down to one man, John Parker.  John has pretty much single-handedly worked to keep it neat and tidy.  Quietly and unobtrusively he has been there, rain or shine.

But John has recently suffered some ill health which has made this work quite difficult and so the call went out for assistance.  Here are some photos from the working group who responded to that call.

We salute John Parker for the selfless work he has put in over the years, and say a huge thank you to today's volunteers for demonstrating the very best of Kalkan.

Well done to all concerned.
