Greggs opens new sandwich and pie shop in Kalkan

Greggs in Kalkan Greggs in Kalkan

With a head office in Newcastle, Greggs is the largest bakery chain in the UK.  It specialises in take away food including pasties, pastries and sandwiches.

Over recent years it has expanded successfully in the UK but Chief Executive Roger Whiteside has had his eye on overseas opportunities for some time, and he is looking to try out locations abroad where there is a significant British presence.

They have already established European shops in places such as southern Spain, and now they are piloting a couple of more exotic locations, one of which is Kalkan.

Work on their latest non-UK shop in Kalkan has been progressing over the winter months and it has now opened its doors to the pie munching public.

This new cholesterol laden emporium will go down well with many expats, who like nothing more than to have saturated fats coarsing through their arteries.  But shop manager Şaka Mabu is keen to stress that they will also have healthy Mediterranean options in the chiller cabinets.

The new shop can be found round the corner from Kaya restaurant and over the road from Tesco subsidiary, Kipa supermarket, close to the new traffic lights.  We are getting quite a UK business presence in Kalkan!

The fact that we have a pie shop just round the corner from Sweeny Todd's barbers may be cause for concern for some people but we have sampled some of the food ourselves and the quality is up to the usual Gregg's standard.
